Is this the same group as The Charleston Symphony Youth Orchestra? I played french horn in it back in 1998-2001 and have been looking for audio of old performances.

Absolutely! Many of our members are in middle school. Participation in the YOLOW orchestras is not limited based on age. Placement is based on skill level as demonstrated during the auditions, and available seats for your given instrument.

Nick mentioned at the earlier comment that YOLOW gives a highschool musician a chance. Is it possible for me to audition and join YOLOW even though I'm only an 8th grader?

From Nick:
Hi John! Great Question!!!
Why be in Yolow?
Yolow is a unique experience. Most schools don't have a full- youth orcehstra so this gives a high school musician the chance. It's quite different from a regular wind band or strings orchestra. And, hey, it doesn't hurt that most of the players are the kids that make All-State every year!

From Cameron:
Hey John,
Yolow is not only a symphony to play in, but a community. Sure, you go in and play the pieces, and don't get me wrong, it IS work, but you also meet up with people you might never meet otherwise. There are all sorts of people there with very different backgrounds, and everyone's talented and doing interesting stuff. And then, there's the fun of actually playing all together. Even when divided into small groups, it's a powerful feeling to play with people who know what they're doing, to be getting it right together. It's not something you can get anywhere else.
